OREGON - Tillamook Airship Station

My planned annual visit to the Reno races in 2001 was somewhat altered by the horrific happenings on 9/11,I was actually sat on a UAL 747 when it happened,we were ready for pushback when the news came through.
Anyway I managed to get a flight to SFO on sunday 16th,I knew my Reno connecting flight was cancelled but we managed to fly there next day (4 POB on a 737).
We rented a car and drove up to Oregon where to our surprise found a small a/c that was actually being allowed to fly,best 100$ I ever spent for a look at the airfield and Tillamook bay

I remember the weekend well. I was operating crew one of the first flights from the UK to the US on the saturday. LGW-TPA. We flew over NYC and you could still see the smoke rising, a very strange feeling. We only had about 95 passengers so it was strange having a virtually empty flight. We went to Fantasy of flight on the Sunday, even Kermit Weeks wasn't allowed to fly then so he ran up the engine of an Avro 504 instead of the usual daily flight.

Actually my girlfriend was the official photog for the trip but her camera went on the fritz,so I took those with a disposable,I have some more but am 'temporarily unsure of their position'

I called in here in October 2010.
It is an amazing building - the scale is something else.
Nice little museum and an interesting history. No flying on the day I went - especially as the day was drawing to an end.
