Clearly an Army ammo storage depot. It had standard gauge rail links feeding into the depot from what I can see. I shall ask my Army expert if he has details.
Don't know much about this site apart from the fact it was used as a WWII ammunition dump. Apparently huts and a few bits and pieces remained up until the mid 60's before it was all burnt back.
It's now a nature reserve/public park but the concrete tracks still remain.

Thanks for the info. I had no idea if it was army or air force. I was just looking at some aerial photos I was given and it stuck out like a sore thumb. Did a google and that's all I got.
I've spotted a ton of other military installations but have no idea what they are![]()
I was in Newbury, Thatcham and nearby Greenham Common yesterday. Checked on the memorial to the tragic Glider accident at the old airbase living site there, four reefs were in place.
oneeigthbit,
If you like that, then you'll love this!

Oddly enough the dump you linked to is missing/censored from the photos but, what I guess is the main depot/dump at Thatcham isn't. You can also still see what's left of the US/POW transit camp on Newbury race course.
It was built during WW2 to store petrol, in jerrycans in the run up to D Day.
Manned by primarily Black US Troops.
I can confirm no rail links to this one; sorry.
What would have been known as "tinned" storage. Another addition to the fuel depot list then.
