Why else does anyone in their right mind fly to Kiruna???? Ice Hotel!! Its a great place too, I never thought I'd be warm in a sleeping bag on a bed of ice in -21 C in an igloo but it was the best nights sleep I have had in a long time!!
I'll get a few more photos posted in a bit!
....but it was the best nights sleep I have had in a long time!!
It's referred to by the medical profession as rigor mortis REF.
A few more, this time from when we departed Kiruna on 23 March 2010

Be funny if that was the mystery airfield in AR123
Regarding the good nights sleep - I always sleep soundly in the winter. We do not put the heating on in our bedroom and always leave the window open. I don't know why cold air aids better sleep.
I'm sorry to say that I didn't go to Kiruna airport or Gallivare airport when I was last there. Stayed in Gallivare but didn't know it even had an airfield, only a big open cast mine(biggest in Europe). Better open my eyes next time.
On deck of a ship in a force 7 at minus 25 in shirtsleeves and you go instantly numb, that might have been the vodka though! Easy to sleep then, waking up is the issue. My first view of large lumps of ice in the sea. Shame the cabin was next to the engine room and like an oven!
