    Ah!... memories of another life...

Not JP's and Jags when I was there (circa 1971) - But Piston Provosts - Sea Hawks - Hunters and Gnats. (amongst other things)

There was a Javelin wing that the instructor would bash with an axe to create a hole for us to repair... A Hunter cockpit for cabin conditioning training.....

The Piston Provosts were all chopped up... The Hunters were unbelievably sold to the Swiss and flew again (Yikes)... and in came a hangar full of Sea Vixens....

Had the airfield been frozen in my time it would now be quite a respectable museum with everything (really) from a Spitfire to a Vulcan.

Thanks for the pictures.... I must go back some time.

    Default RAF Halton celebration

Thought I would post this image taken in March 1990 at a fancy dress ball in a hangar at RAF Halton. It was held to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Battle of Britain and was in aid of the RAF Benevolent Fund.
A few hundred folk, ate, drank and danced the night away to the strains of an excellant Glen Miller style band.
Moonlight serenade; I've got a girl in Klamazoo; In the mood; and then as they played "You stepped out of a dream" two elderly ladies came up to me and told me that they were WAAFs in WW2. Both of them then started stroking my arm and the front of my tunic and one then let out a very audible sigh and whistfully said "You boys were all so brave and handsome. Mine was lost over Germany". I am not often lost for words but all I could whisper was that I was so sorry. Perhaps it was just as well the lighting was dimmed as I blinked away a sweaty eyeball.

You will have gathered I'm the good guy in the image and you can boo at my fat friend Jim.

    Hi contentd
I was a crafty rigger brat 70-72,was saddened to see the rather delapidated state of the Hangars when I popped up for the Open Day/Moth fly in last year,no money available nowadays for the non operational RAF Airfields.
Sorry did not take any building shots and even this one has a Dak taxying past

Just out of interest, I assume all the Jaguars and Provosts were roaded in?

Jags, JPs, Hunters, Gnats, Sea Vixens etc etc all roaded in. Vulcans, Comets and at least one Argosy (I think) flown in. Did the Twin Pin fly in?
