    Default Whitley BD 420 Stiperstones

This aircraft was on a training flight from RAF Sleap (81 OTU) towing a glider, when over high ground lost height suddenly and crashed at Myddle Dingle with the loss of all crew, luckily the glider detached and landed in a field at Minsterley

Nice one ian, thanks for showing that. Another for my ever-growing list of memorials to visit.

    The pilots name is sadly misspelt it shoud read: Pilot F/Sgt Broun RNZAF 21 417013 (he rests in Blacon cemetery Chester) - NAV P/O E A Creber RAF 24 936235 - A/B Sgt R F Hodges 19 RCAF 936235 (he rests in Blacon cemetery Chester) - W/O Sgt J T Brownhill 21 RAF 1715940 - A/G Sgt H Little 20 RAF 1593467.
They were flying from RAF Sleap (81 OTU) only a few miles away Whitley 5 BD420 'J' was towing a Horsa Glider HA443.
    Regards
    Rol.

Just a note, for some reason BD420 is not mentioned in W.R.Chorley's Bomber Command Losses Vol 7 OTU's 1940-1947 at least I can't find it.
