I remember when I was looking for a New Aviation Memorial at Saughall Massie on the Wirral (across the Mersey from Liverpool) I couldn't find it on my map either & the Scale was two & half mls to the inch, had to look it up on my Merseyside A to Z. The Memorial (Plaque on Bridge) was that new, cause when I went to photograph it, they hadn't finished the road the bridge was on (new bye pass) the workers asked was I press !!

No formal service as such, but a laying of flowers on the Memorial by several small parties, all paying thier respects. Messages on aviation forums asking for Remembrance, Newark Air Museum made the Memorial their Object of the week on their website and are due to cover the Rededication in the next Dispersal, and several of us raised a glass to the crew at 10.52 last night, next year we are hoping that we will be running the Lancaster exhibition again around the 69th Anniversary at Snowdrop Sunday in the grounds of Staunton Hall, at the last one 1500 people turned up, if it falls on the weekend of the 18th/19th Feb we will probably ask the vicar to perform a short service at the Memorial to coincide. I'll be chasing you all to come if it goes ahead.

May be nice to arrange something substantial for the 70th?

jack russell, I have just noticed that the memorial was re-dedicated in July 2010, do you know (or anyone else) know when it was originally dedicated?

    Thanks

Hi there, yes, the project started in late 1999 to be part of the Millenium celebrations, but the actual Memorial was finally finished and dedicated in March 2003, after a series of fund raisers and donations. best wishes Jack
