B17 rear guns firing into a Shooting-in Butt 'somewhere in England'
The standard SIB built on 1942 onwards bomber airfields as a semi circular earth bank usually at the back of an aircraft dispersal.

Both Butt and Range at Newton have gone.
I took those last summer glad I did now.wonder if any of the pillboxes are gone now as well

The aircraft Shooting-in Butt was located here at the end of a surfaced track: NY483615

The butt is visible on an old OS map. I believe that the 25 yard Range was located directly behind it but not on the map (1974)
The 25 yard range at Castletown is here (remians) The firing point was parallel with the edge of the post-war road:

I think that I misidentified this as a Shooting-in Butt in another thread but cannot locate the post.

RAF Llandow 40ft Aircraft MG Test Butt. The AM plan lists it as 12312/41, though it may actually be 1321/41.
