got a question for all you boffins,
are there any pics or plans for this airfield. i was lead to believe that the buildings were close to what is now called the blue house roundabout in newcastle
i could be wrong
and does anybody have any info on RAF Longbenton please. would please my CO he has been looking for ages and found nowt(nothing)

According to our audit, RAFM Hendon holds a 1950 siteplan (Newcastle/Longbenton (BD) 1274/50 (b)), which they can supply.

OT, but many years ago I worked setting up the pizza manufacturing line at Findus, Longbenton. Is it still there - don't hear much of Findus these days?

Town Moor, Newcastle. Venue for the 1970 RAF 'Town Show'. Remember it well. Lots of helos and other stuff on the ground. Air display and fly-overs by Vulcan, Victor, Belfast, Britannia, VC 10, Hercules (in the brown camo) and all sorts of fire breathing pointy-nosed stuff. Makes you want to cry! We stayed in the uni halls of residence and it was open house in all the city-centre clubs at night. Great times.

Belatedly , I have a site plan for the Newcastle Town Moor aerodrome . I'm not sure of its provenance but it is based on PRO AIR1/452/15/31226 . If graham c pm's or emails me I'l put a copy in the post . Apart from the racecourse the only other prominent features are Dukes Moor to the north and Moor Edge Farm and a hospital to the east .
Perhaps 'we' should move this thread to the Tyne & Wear section of Northern Airfields ?

I remember the "Town Moor Air Show" well, I was on the Hercules dropping the 'Falcons' parachute team, we operated out of Newcastle Airport, seem to remember that one of the team had a hard landing and broke his ankle, and when we collected him from the hospital, we took him around in a wheelbarrow. Happy days.

i seem to remember one year when someone missed the LZ and landed across the main road in a school field. Its a pity they stopped doing the show there because they were well supported
