I use Solidworks but but need to get a decent renderer as the basic one built in isn't that brilliant.
Hi,
Thanks Rich. If anyone has any other pictures from other sides of the brick version they would be handy
They where built in Gmax which I use for Flight simulator modelling (stripped out free version of 3dsmax) but I then transfer them into 3dsmax to do the renders (gmax doesnt have a renderer). So these renders where done in 3dsmax. Textures where done in Photoshop using various pictures, some greatly edited to fit.

Edit, just noticed in the last render the 207/36 on the left has a rouge downspout half way up the wall?? I dunno!!![]()

I use Solidworks but but need to get a decent renderer as the basic one built in isn't that brilliant.
The renders I've done above are just the 3dsmax default render settings with one lightsource, nothing special. They only take about 20seconds to render, but you can get much sharper quality ones if settings are changed, but the higher the settings the longer they take to render.

It's absolutely criminal that the Bircham Newton example was demolished, I just really hope that at least one of these lovely watch towers gets preserved, the Bicester one looks nice and original.
My render take at least 5 minutes even on the basic settings, but i suppose that the difference with a solid model.
What was even more criminal is that the place is the construction industry training centre, they could have restored it as an exercise.
I thought the 207/36 was the concrete version of the 1959-1960/34 which was brick
It was, not much difference between them, just an alternative to match surrounding concrete buildings I dont think it replaced the brick version. I'm at this moment building a 3d model of the brick version, I'll post a pic when its finished.

Hi,
Here is a comparison of the Brick and Concrete version at a slightly higher render setting (took 14 minutes) but the image has been reduced in quality and size to upload to photobucket. These are new models than the previous images with the interior modelled. I think the only thing I havent done is round off the corners on the concrete version which is how it would have been not sharp corners like I have them.
You can see that the Tower windows/columns are different, there seemed to have been several different window arrangments for the concrete version.
Concrete
2 columns on each side (as per image below)
2 columns on the left, right and back sides, with none on the front
1 column on each side
1 column on the left, right and back sides, with none on the front (Burtonwood)
Theres a lintel above the entrance door on the Brick version, none on the Concrete just the timber door frame.
There are 4 windows separated by a brick column on the rear of the brick version, just 2 windows on the concrete. The rear windows on the brick version are also longer.
And for the eagle eyed amongst you...yes the concrete version entrance doors are taller than the brick ones, for some reason I made the doors on the concrete version 7' why I have no idea but it was too much work to fix it, LOL.
Regards
Stevo
P.S Ah just realised we've had a merger, thought I was going mad there when I went back to page 1, LOL

Errors and omissions excepted, I'm impressed. I especially like the brick version.
This will be my last image I think
Here we have the 207/36 with the centre tower removed and a larger control room added to 4698/43 (again a new model than in my earlier picture.) Here the spiral staircase which would have been inside the watch office to access the original centre tower has been relocated on the outside of the building.
Top picture is my own representation of what the 4698/43 modification might have looked like before it was rendered and painted, second picture is after thats been done. This model is losely based on a combination of Driffields Watch Office (ground floor) and West Raynhams 4698/32 (first floor). West Raynhams had the large ground floor window removed and had 4 smaller windows added.
