Mk1 Sherpa pick-up, Mk1 Astra and a mint looking Montego !!! Nice to see, oh, sorry so are the buildings.
Here's a great collection of photos taken at Desford that Norwichpaul kindly sent me a while ago -
Below - Many of those buildings still stand and are in use today thankfully
Above/Below - Great pics of when Reid and Sigrist refurbished and repaired B-25's in 1944 -
Thanks for letting me share those photos Paul.
Cheers
Steve

Fantastic reading and pics. I wish my father was still alive, he worked for Reid and Sigrist at Desford Airfield throughout the war years. He was an AID approved engine fitter working mainly on the Gypsy moth and Merlin engines. I was only very young back then but still remember some of the stories he used to tell, all just part of life at the time, but now important history. I still have many items relating to his time there, but no photographs, They are on loan at a local Vintage and classic flight museum that I am a member of here in Tauranga New Zealand.
Hi Dennis. Welcome to AiX. Have you taken any photographs of the Desford items you mentioned at the Flight Museum? Would be great to see them.
Here's another pic from inside the Reid and Sigrist Hangar.
(Many thanks to Nigel Bailey-Underwood for sending me this photo)
Cheers

Hi all,
I'm trying to find some info and good photos of the Aerodrome from WWII. I'm researching my Nan's life (Who passed away 3 weeks ago) She lived in Ellistown and repaired the Spitfires and Defiants during the war. She told me about her work and about Alex Henshaw testing them and flying them through the hangers.
If anyone has some photos or info they can share it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Neil
Hi Neil,
Sorry to hear about your Nan. This book is excellent and features lots and lots of great info regarding Desford's wartime years -

Also worth checking out -

and it may be worth getting in touch with John - the guy who runs this website in the link below. He used to work at the airfield and has huge knowledge on the airfield. -

Hope this helps,

Thanks Steve, I have emailed John, so fingers crossed. I'm grateful for anything. Any photo's like the ones above are ideal. If there is any video footage that you could think of that would be a massive help!
Thanks, Neil
Can anyone tell me if anything remains today from the WWII site?
TIA
