Thread: Rvt 194/araa

    Default Rvt 194/araa

This vehicle is described in AP2276 as a Radio Approach Aid. The two photographs show the aerial in the stowed position (these two photographs also appear on the MLU forum).

“Wheels of the RAF”, page 177 has a photo of the A.R.A.A. (Aerodrome Radio Approach Aid) also known as the “poor mans GCA”.

There is a striking similarity between the RVT194 and the ARAA photos. The masts, shown deployed in the ARAA photo, are compatible with the descriptions given on the RVT194 sheet. The power vehicle shown in the ARAA photo is an Austin K2; the RVT194 sheet refers to the power vehicle as RVT346 – Austin 2 ton 4x2, model K2 chassis.

So can anybody confirm that RVT194 and ARAA are one and the same?

WELLINGTON75, can you please put in the link to the MLU forum which I think some of our other regular airfield vehicle thread contributors are members of ?
