According to ceefax planning permission has been given for approx 500 new married quarters at Brize.
The new Britannia Gate has now been completed at Brize, this is where the repatriations will come through on the way out of the airfield before passing by the new flagpole near the main entrance and through Carterton

Looking at the Control Tower as the Americans have it - yes the top does look a later American model
But can anyone identify the original wartime Watch Office ??
second photo of it looks a bit like a 13726/41 - can't be right surely

The Britannia Gate looks very impressive but I can't quite work out where it is, can anyone give specifics? Is it on the tech/domestic side of the station or somewhere over the far side where 99/511 Brit. Line was many moons ago? Also where is the new flag pole located?
The Brize control tower is a proper AM/RAF 5223a/51 design, fairly standard for large RAF airfields of the early 1950s (others at Greenham Common, Upper Heyford, Biggin Hill, North Weald), the VCR cupola on the top is absolutely standard for this design.
The original watch office for Brize would have been a 5740/36 Chief Flying Instructors Block style (as at Little Ris, Hullavington etc), not sure if it still exists or when it was demolished?
