    Default ITALY - Ortanova

With the aid of Wikipedia (English and Italian) and several other websites (Google!) I am trying to make a complete overview of the Foggia Airfield Complex. So far I am progressing well, although I've found that Wikipedia has some serious errors on locations, and lacks any information on some airfields.

The lack of information led me to Google Earth, a great tool that will give you more information than you might think. For instance; it helped me debunk parts on the Wikipedia article on Castel Volturno northwest of Naples.

While scanning the Foggia area I happened to run into an unmarked former airfield east of Foggia and south of Amendola. I suspect it may be one of the Foggia Airfield complex bases, but I have no idea which one, or what its history is. Anyone have any suggestions?

And a Google Earth KMZ file here

    I think that's Toretta. RAF No 205 Group then 15th AF B-24s.

Mystery solved: the airfield is Ortanova airfield, a former auxiliary to Amendola. It was in use until at least 1995, when Amendola was still flying over 60 G-91T trainers.
