A nice try, but thats not the Swinderby badge, in fact did Swinderby have a badge? The School of Recruit Training had a badge, and thats what is shown, but the motto is wrong.
This one passed me by. If it wasn't for a mention in the latest Newark Air Museum newsletter, I would be totally unaware of this, very possibly the only memorial that is ever to include me directly.
I expected something tangible and visible, but a few passes up and down the old "Camp Road" proved fruitless, so I passed quickly through the modern entrance, still nothing, but I was relieved to find the destruction visible on my last visit had stopped. Despite one of the Js bricked up, just the metal portion of the water tower complex removed and remaining brick mountains now with a healthy covering of grass, it looked better than I expected. After a few photos, I had got to the point of actively looking for some site security, when I found it.
Yes, thats it. On the post. BTW, the nearest "old" building is just out of shot, a hangar to the left of that line of shipping containers at the back.
A close-up.
and some idea of what to expect in future.

Over the many years that I used to drive through this site on my way to Bassingham from Lincoln hoping that one day there'll be an appropriate memorial here I'm very disappointed. Look at the cheap and nasty way this plaque that canberra says is wrong anyway has been screwed on, it'll soon get nicked. Maybe it'll just get pulled out of the ground.... a poor effort![]()
Mixed emotions....... I feel I should be grateful as someone did a least make some effort. That said, it is particularly disappointing and insignificant. Seems a great shame given the history of this particular place.......not sure what to say really ??
I was at Swinderby on Friday (20 May) with CDP, we stopped at the memorial and took a few photos, I wasn't overly impressed with it I must say, does the place no jusstice whatsoever. Still better that having Bannerman plastered all over it though!
js800_Swinderby Crest.jpg Think this is what was needed:

Motto reads something along the lines of.....This is the gate, the walls are men..........so I'm told.

RAF Swinderby Memorial Board and Memorial Bench
On Sunday 18 March 2012 a new RAF Swinderby Memorial Board and Memorial Bench in honour of 300 and 301Polish air Force Squadrons were unveiled outside the Village Hall at Witham St Hughs, Lincolnshire.
These are the latest in a series of memorials that have been established at the former World War II bomber base and RAF training base.
The memorial board details the wartime role of the base and the memorial bench has the following inscription carved on it: “Remembering No.300 and No.301 Polish Air Force Squadrons who served with the Royal Air Force at RAF Swinderby during World War II.”
