No questions Paul I just eagerly await its publication so I can add it to my library.
I am pleased to announce that Issue 2 will be out at the end of the year but quite possibly a whole lot sooner.
It has a working title 'UK Military Airfield Development 1920-1945'. 250 pages, A4, soft cover, illustrated with plans and photos, 110,000 words. It will be limited to just 300 copies. Cost to be determined. All profit will go to support the archive and fund the next book.
Synopsis
The book is based on my EH work (1998-2000) but has been updated, its an overview of the development of military airfields, it partly examines the political climate in Europe that directly led to the redevelopment of WWI aerodromes in the interwar period. It also covers the phased construction programmes that was a direct result of French and later, German expansion. It looks at airfield planning, building construction, grass airfields, runways and the design of buildings. There is a large section on most aspects of training and how this was carried out both, from the point of view of aircrew and the stations involved. There are brief descriptions of over 200 buildings based on RAFM building drawings, there are also plenty of tables and lists of airfields by type, identifying hangars and control towers.
There will be a whole series of books, each one concentrating on a single topic, such as technical buildings, control towers, hangars etc, this issue (#2) covers all of these subjects but will not be as detailed.
Any questions?
