I suggest you try the Great War Forum. I have just found a link on there to a French website which lists a camp at Hameln - the German spelling of Hamlyn/Hamlin. I tried the search function but you have to join the forum for this. Good hunting!
Any experts on POW camps amongst our members?
My mum has a Book of common prayer, which belonged to one of her uncles, inside which is written:
Corporal C. Scruton
36639 / 78849
12th East Yorkshire Regiment
Kriegsgefangenenlager, Hamlyn
The first number is Kit's army service number (also shown on his Victory and British War medals which I have). Second number?
I can't find a reference to a POW camp at Hamlyn. Was there one?

I suspect that it is Hamelin as well, a nice town on the river Weser and yes its where the pied piper came from.
try the army rumour service web site.
Thanks for the suggestions
