Just off long finals for 08.
How well I know that approach
The tree belt marks the line of the original wartime main.

Note the camouflage paint on the control tower in the background.
All the best,

Lovely photograph Paul, first time that I've ever seen the slightest part of Knettishall's control tower. The prop' blades seem to be leaning backwards ?? especially the closest two !!
Due to a wide angle lens methinks.
a friend of mine lives in the old church there which was used as the bomb store
cheers

I'm hoping you mean 'near' the bomb store Jon.
Freeman puts the main HE dumps in Wall Covert.
However the road (plus a few feet either side) running north from the peritrack to the church formed a narrow strip inside the airfield boundary, suggesting that it contained something. The airfield boundary ended just before the chuch.
I note however on the OS insert in 'Airfields of the Eighth' the church is marked '(rems of)'. I guess this map is 1960 ish. I seems to be intact today view. Hmm.
(That 'Google' road takes you right onto the airfield - to the remains of the main runway).
