Thanks REF; very nice.
Took these today at Woodend, Northants.
Arrived here today about 11.30am, it's definitely a morning shot ! Anyway as I was taking these photographs two Ladies came along who were at the dedication and kindly blocked the sun from a few photographs. About 100 yards behind from where I stood for the final photograph is where one of the B17s crashed.
How kind of those two ladies. Its such a nice looking memorial. Thank you for sharing.
What happened? did 2 B-17s collide?
Three B17s collided over this area, two crashed into the fields, one managed to return to Snetterton [96th BG] airfield. It was only an excercise as well....
The best that I could do due to the sun's position, and reflection from the covering. It is a lovely memorial, but sadly will not last too long face-up too the elements as it is.
I first saw a mention of this proposed memorial in Flypast Magazine November 2010. It said that by 2014 a memorial would be dedicated to those lost from this collision. Many thanks to those involved in dedicating this memorial at least three years before the original proposed date. A great achivement indeed !!!
Such a sad story as are many wartime stories. Well done to those who got involved in getting this memorial dedicated to this tragic accident.
