Massive cannabis farm found in Drakelow tunnels: http://www.expressandstar.com/news/c...kelow-tunnels/

What affect this will have on the restoration plans is unclear at the moment, but it's certainly not good news!

Clearing out illegal activities and going ahead with restoration to put the site under some controlled security would be preferred but, if there is no cash or will to do so then it is doomed to being permanently sealed.

    Press Release from restoration team:

    Drakelow Tunnels Volunteers Press Release:

The volunteers of Drakelow Tunnels are amazed at the information that has come to light. The volunteers have operated with preservation in mind and have had fundraising events such as open days to educate past and future generations on the WWII and Cold War history of the complex.

We have run work parties with volunteers to renovate the tunnels since March 2010 and were hopeful of getting planning application to turn the complex into a museum. We are now afraid all this hard work may come to nothing.

Until we find out more information we are unable to comment further.

And apparently the plants were being grown in the rented storage area at the back of the site, nothing to to with the 'main' tunnels as such?

That's because I copied and pasted straight from your email, I don't believe in wasting perfectly good text!

And they were only moaning yesterday that the places on BBC1's Secret Britain programme were not secret.
