I'm given to understand the main "runway" is to be either extended or surfaced (can't recall which). This strikes me as odd, given that it is popular (with C-130 etc.) because it is a military grass runway. I believe there was a drive to do as much archaeology as possible in a hurry, before work begins/began. Perhaps demolishing the hangars is part of the general work to the airfield.

I always found it odd that over the years Upavon hasnt had metalled runways put in. But I cant see it ever happening, dread to think of the cost. However how much PSA do the REs have left over from the cold war?????

Oh, how dull. But wouldn't the REs be holding huge amounts of PSA as 'war reserve'?

    RAF Upavon!

Lived here when I was a nipper (the standard 4 years!) Went past it about 5 years ago but obviously couldn't get on camp. I remember one of the hangers used to be used as the gym!

Good memories of the old place!
