Email received from The Friends of Leiston Airfield

Hello to all my 357th family.

Some of you will know that on the 363rd Sqn area of the old airbase is a trailer park. There we have a small building with photographs etc dedicated to the 357th Fighter Group. When I say small I do mean small, around 150 sq ft floor area.

For some time I have been negotiating with the park owner for permission to add onto the existing building so that we can increase our displays. However, the roof needs some repairs and with the cost of another building to add on it became obvious that this was not the road to go down. The owner suggested a brand new building would be a much more sensible idea but this was, financially out of our reach.

Four weeks ago I announced to our members and supporters that due to the roof problems the building was to be demolished. This was not well received at that moment but I then went on to say that the park owner suggested to me that he and I [FOLA] share the cost of a brand new building. That was an offer I could not refuse and the old building is being demolished in the next few weeks,

The new building,350 sq ft floor area, is being fabricated in the factory during January and weather permitting will be erected in February. Fitting out will take place during March ready for opening at Easter.

The reason for this long preamble is firstly to invite you to contribute any items to our museum and secondly to invite you to the opening which will take place on the same weekend as our Annual Service of Remembrance & Thanksgiving whish is taking place on Sunday 26th May 2013.

If I can be off any help in assisting with your accomodation please, do not hesitate to contact me.

May I wish you and yours a very merry Christmas and a peaceful New Year

    Peter Saunders

Quite possibly what it was used for, but it was built as a Radar Workshop 7352/42.

What looks the right shape to have been a purpose-built Nissen photo lab in the wartime aerial photo stood to the west of the northern of the T2s.

    All the best,
    PB
