Thanks Rich, the AMQ's I am referring to are the ones on the base itself. Opposite the Sgt's Mess. Not the ones up at Linton Woods.

You had the Sgt's Mess, a road, grass play area and then the AMQ's. I post up a photo someone kindly did some while back.

The houses in the photo above have been demolished , see #Post124 on Page 13 of this thread for a reply , which was to smiler16's original post . There are houses on camp off Grosvenor Square but these appear to be fairley 'modern' and not original 50-60's style like those above ? The present houses are in Maple Grove and White Rose Close and can be seen on GE .

Bugger... Thanks guys, appreciate the feedback.

My son has now followed his father, in as much where he was born and where he lived until 2 years of age, have all been demolished. Needless to say, all ex MOD!

In my time mate (1980-84), they were all ranks. We had 1 Sgt, 4 Cpl's and 2 airmen from Air Traffic living in Grosvenor Square back then!

In the picture, you can pick out the AMQ for 2 Cpl's and 1 Airman. Great memories of a great four years spent at Linton.

In 1959-1964 my recollection is that this area was for Airman and Corporals the Senior NCO's were in Linton Woods. The size of the quarter you got depended on the size of your family. I do recall one chap had seven children and had two adjoining quarters.

I bet those new houses do not have frozen pipes in winter, blocked chimneys, needing at least one call to the fire section because the stack needed sweeping, overnight storage heaters that ran out of heat by lunchtime!

All in all, still nice AMQ's. Bedrooms were big, but a tiny living room/lounge though.

I had a walking tour of Linton last week in the company of fellow AiX member Iain Clark , ex Linton JP engine techie in the early 80's , and we met smiler16 too . Nice quad bike Rich ! I took photos of most of the surviving wartime buildings and also some of the new housing in Maple Grove and White Rose Close as mentioned in the previous posts by Dr Bishop . That took Iain back in time to remember the short cut from the College Arms garden back into the station over a small fence which was later replaced by a barbed wire fence which Iain recalls was more difficult to navigate through especially after a few pints ! He also remembered a small NAAFI shop which was amongst the original houses . Two of the roads off Grosvenor Square are Lambeth Walk and Harley Street were the SSQ is !
If anyone would like copies of the photos just PM me .
