Default Urgent help needed to stop development of an airfield site

The Bottisham Airfield Museum has been given notice to quit its premises on the old Site 4 of Bottisham airfield. The owner plans to knock down the wartime buildings and redevelop the site for housing.

We are aiming to stop this by either getting the buildings listed or by blocking planning permission.

To do this we need to make a case for Bottisham being unique.

The thing that makes site 4 unique to me is that it is right in the heart of the village - how unique was this?

Also the site is very much intact and unspoilt with 6 original wartime buildings and 2 air raid shelters how many of these sites are there nationally and are they in good condition?

I was hoping the 'brains trust' on AIX could assist with some information that might help build a case to save these wonderful buildings.

    Any help very much appreciated.

    Cheers

I for one would look forward to the responses.

Getting the buildings listed or by blocking planning permission would come in very handy for Binbrook.

Dr_Bishop thanks for the useful links.

The information I was really hoping to uncover was Bottisham's uniqueness.

There are people on here with knowledge of airfields all over the country - how many airfields in the UK have buildings away from the airfield itself and set in the middle of a village ??

If there are airfields with buildings off the airfield and set in the middle of a village how many are preserved in their entirity?? Site 4 at Bottisham remains more or less unmolested - are there others like it???

You are perfectly entitled to go on the EH web site and nominate a heritage asset for listing:

    http://www.english-heritage.org.uk/c...ted-buildings/

Just click on nominate a heritage asset button (2nd one down on the right under I want to....) and answer the questions, someone will acknowledge the request and then its the waiting game. You dont even need to do it all at once, make a start, answer a few questions save it and come back to it.

Good luck with your quest Jason, don't let this site just become a memory underneath yet another 'Legoland'. Persevere with it, keep us informed and any more help required let us know.

For buildings to be Listed you would need to be able to demonstrate that they are of 'special architectural or historic interest', as defined in Section 1 of the Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) Act 1990. To get a feel for if this is going to be achievable in this case it might be worth trying to contact John Schofield or Roger J Thomas at English Heritage, who I believe are their specialists on 20th century defences.
