Hi Jenna, Just to get things clear regards the Thread title is it one and the same as Barton-le-Clay ? I go there every thursday, also to near-by Hexton. One of our Rep's lives at Barton' but has never mentioned anything about an airfield. I'll corner him tomorrow !

hi ya, yes Barton-Le-Clay was previously Barton In The Clay, the parish council back in the 60's must have been smoking something and made the change as it sounded posher... politicians don't you just love them!

Jenna, I am writing not about your querry,rather to ask if you could possibly help me. Iam a long term aeromodeller specialising in large radio control scale models.
I have 6 half size models,1910 Avro triplane (as featured in the film Magnificent Men in their flying machines) , 1913 Gordon Bennett racer, Ponnier monoplane,1917 All the above feature scale wing warping.a 1917 Nieuport 28, 1930 Bristol Bulldog and ready for painting a DH Gypsy Moth complete with wing folding to be painted as Amy Johnsons aircraft ,Amy came from my home town. Ialso have a two thirds model of the 1917 Hanriot HD1 biplane plus another Ponnier to the same scale. I am looking at hopefully building a model of the mark 1 Luton Buzzard but I have only been able to find a poor 3 view which has the mark 1 fuselage but with the mark 2 wings !.
I read on one of the modelling websites that you had designed and built a model of the Luton Buzzard and wonder if you could possibly help with a 3 view or any other scale information , I would cover any costs incurred , I think it would make a really good powered glider something different with plenty of character.

Hi Ian,

As your aware there are no official plans for the Buzzard as they were destroyed in the workshop fire at Barton whilst the aircraft was being built or at the Denham workshop which was also burnt down during WW2 (depending MK1 or MK2).

At this time I am working on 10 aircraft plans that document all the aircraft designed or flown from Barton In The Clay and one is the MK1 Buzzard. The project is part of a bid for Lottery Heritage funding to complete the full size plans and follow through to full highly detailed model plans in 1/4 scale as part of an charitable eduction programme within the villages schools, local aviation groups and historical societies plus donate from sales to related aviation groups (Vintage Glider Club, Brooklands, etc etc) who have helped with research.

I have talked with a rep from the LMA in regard to complying with the legalities of flying large scale models however I haven’t perused this as its a little premature at this stage.. I will email you more on this topic.

So in short no I cant help at this moment, however in the future if goes to plan the there will be accurate plans available for the MK1 Buzzard.
