A few photos of Sucre Airport taken in February 2012. An interesting airport, surrounded by the Andes makes for an exciting white knuckle arrival! Check it out on Youtube. There is no ILS and all approaches/landings are visual. Morning arrivals tend to be delayed due low cloud. Jet aircraft all land and take off in the same direction i.e. downhill (the B727 is taxying uphill to the terminal after landing and the Bae 146 is about to take off). Due to the terrain and steep approach which is necessary both runway thresholds are displaced by approximately 1000 feet. Between aircraft movements the locals play football on the runway!
