    Default CLEETHORPES - Town Hall

The Roll of Honour which I believe originally came from the camp church at RAF North Coates now lives in the main entrance of Cleethorpes Town Hall

This has the Town Halls collection of unit shields from flying units at North Coates above it

I have larger images of the individual crests if anyone needs them

Also here is the North Coates Shield presented in 1959

and this rather unusual memorial to a French pilot

Not normally accessible to the public, although you could drop in and ask. I saw them during a Hertage Open Day when the whole Town Hall was opened up

Thanks for that. My uncle, David Arnold Ray, RAAF, is listed on the second board around February 1942. I knew about the memorial from a now-defunct website listing various memorials around the Grimsby area but hadn't tracked down a photo until now.

The roll of honour boards are situated with all the crests, etc, in the entrance corridor of the old town hall. While the corridor is wider than normal it was not possible to photograph all of it at once. It is normaly not open to the public, but it would be difficult for the reception at the town hall to refuse entry , particularly if you have a personal interest.

The photos in the first post #1 above are reversed, the board with your uncles name is in fact on the left.

There is an identical roll of honour board in the church at North Cotes village which also has the war graves. Apparantly it is a copy of the board that was in the camp church. Trying to find my photos of this....

And here is the crest of your uncles squadron, 53sqn, which is on the wall above the roll of honor.

(Sorry the photo is not as sharp as I would like)
