    Default RAF Service Record, Help

    Hi,
    My name is Margaret Donaldson. I'm new to online info exchange so not sure how best to use it. I've joined because your site kept coming up when I was searching for explanations of acronyms and abbreviations on my Dad's service record.
    Thanks to your message board I now know that 7 ITW in Nov 1943 was at Newquay and that 10 S of TT (Airframes & Armament) in Jan 1947 was at RAF Kirkham. But in between there are still a lot of queries.
    My Dad was a Flight Sgt Navigator and I'm fairly sure he did some of his training in Durban, South Africa. Does that fit with 48 AS (July 44) and/or 47 AS (Nov 44)?
    After that he went to the Middle East - that fits with HQ RAF ME in Feb 1945 , 1 (ME) ARC and probably Agir EM. Does anybody know where HQ RAF ME, 1 (ME) ARC or Agir EM were?
    In early May 1945 Dad spent a week in 3. RAF Hospital. Was that in Palestine? Dad said he lost his crew because of that asthma attack!.
    Later Dad was as 107MU (July 1945) which I think was on the Great Bitter Lakes in Egypt.

    Any confirmations or additional info gratefully received.

    Thanks, Margaret

    Hi Margaret, Welcome to AiX.

    HQ RAF MIddle East was at the Seniramas Hotel, Cairo from 1943 to an unknown date. It was then known as Middle East Air Command.

    Kasfareet was an airfield on the Great Bitter Lake HERE.

    An Aircraft Storage Unit (107MU) and Equipment Supply Depot until 1955

    Nothing on Agir, but there was the Middle East Night Training School at Aqir Palestine (11/1945 - 7/1946). A large number of units were based here. Aqir became Ekron and is now Tel Nof. It's about ten miles SSE of Tel Aviv.

    You may have more luck with identifying individual units and their bases by posting on the RAF Commands Forum , see here ;

    I'm a member of both and they complement each other very well .
    Good luck !

    It's a small world ! There is a new thread on RAF Commands about 48 Air Navigation School which could well be the '48 AS' you are looking for ?

    I'm sure there will be others too but certainly a good place to start .
