    Default One of our aircraft...

    ...is no longer missing it would seem. The pilot's whereabouts is unclear though. Doubt there'll be much left of this P-40 though after the locals have stripped it for scrap....

    Long running and very detailed thread about the P40 on Key Aviation Forums long before the British press picked it up , see here ;

    The reason it might still be there is that there aren't any locals. It must be a better recovery prospect than David Cameron's buried Burmese Spitfires though

    This is another one which cropped up on the Air Britain forum yesterday , a First World War bi-plane on the Greek island of Thasos , see here ;

    Its been quite a year so far for discovering 'wrecks' what with the Burmese Spitfires , the P40 , a He219 off the Denmark coast and now this !

    Take your pick

    It was documented at the time that there was a fault with its front landing gear which would not retract and the photographic evidence suggests the aircraft had its front wheel down when it crashed.

    According to experts, a plane making a controlled crash landing in the desert wouldn't have its landing gear down and would belly-flop on the sand.
