    Great stuff there Mark - why don't we have anything interesting on the gate over in the UK now??? Its all full size model spitfires now!!

    I hear you but they're probably cheaper to keep up. The real stuff is expensive to maintain. That's why the A-10 at the Bury looks like the dog's dinner and the F-5 of course is a model.

    Yes the reason for the replica Spitfires and Hurricanes at Stations that were Spitfire and Huricane bases is down to the upkeep of the aircraft. The gate guards are still on RAF charge(just like those in the RAF museum) and they must be maintained otherwise one day all Coningsby(for example) will have is four piles of corroded metal instead of guardians.
