I've recently become aware of something called a 'Ryder light' which was some form of temporary searchlight employed during the invasion fears of t1940. Apparently a flare was used in conjunction with a parabolic mirror to direct the light source as a form of rudimentary searchlight. If any one has further info or some photos or diagrams of how this contraption would have been used it would be much appreciated - thanks
