Thanks tigger - someone to help do this task is long overdue!! There is only so much I have been able to tidy due to time!!
All, I am doing some housekeeping and deleting of older posts which don't directly add information. If one of your 'thank you' type posts from two years ago is no longer here it's nothing personal!
The aim is to make the bulletin board easier to search ...it isn't about discouraging people from conversing.

Grand job. I have cleaned a few of my own posts but you always feel reluctanct to remove others posts. Two years seems about right, especially for visit arrangements etc.
On the subject of housekeeping.
Our practice is to back up the database at weekly intervals and/or prior to any patches or upgrades.
Apart from the obvious this is necessary because updates or patches may include modifications to the database structure which can cause problems in the event of a "bad upgrade"
The database has now exceeded 2GB in size and attempts to back this up have caused the ISP's bandwidth controls to flag us up as "too many users" with the result that the forum chokes... as a result it has become necessary to switch the forum off for the duration of the backup process. Even with a fast connection this rarely takes less than 1 hour. We're looking into other ways of doing this, but for now apologies for this downtime.
(upgrades and some patches can take a while as well as uploading the required modified files via FTP can be frustratingly slow)
There's no good time to do any of this but I work on the basis that doing it before the Americans wake up for the day is likely to be easier on the shared servers hosting our site.
That's it really... now it's time for my luncheon. (Asda £1.00 Pate and a bag of Cheese and Onion Crisps today)
