Huggate Wold

I have seen reference to a temporary airstrip at Huggate Wold that was used by 168 and 170 Sqn during WW2, does anyone know more about this place? An exact location would be great if poss

Dave Smith has it HERE. So does ABCT http://www.abct.org.uk/airfields/huggate-wold

He states it was surveyed for heavy bomber development, but found unsuitable and used briefly for ALG construction experiments (Exercise Toby) using the new Sommerfeld Tracking with Mustangs in October 1943. The aircraft were from nearby Hutton Cranswick.

Full Sutton was probably its HB replacement.

I seem to recall a picture associated with Huggate Wold but I think it might be a generic rolling out the matting picture.

Why is it that airfields that never were, sound like ficticious film airfields

Thanks Graham, I did wonder if that was where it was as it seemed the most likely location. I wonder if there was anything constructed there?

Ive had a look on Google Earth this morning and have found no trace evidence of any constructions there at all.

So if there was its been completely obliterated.
