    RFC Bishopton
Bishopton is a small village in the borough of Darlington to the west of Stockton-on-Tees.

Like most WW1 landing grounds, the histories of the area detail the medieval village and the motte-and-bailey fortification known as Castle Hill which dates back to at least the 12th century but makes no mention of the Landing ground that existed in the area.

In October 1916 an area of land to the W of Bishopton was turned into a landing field for No 36 (Home Defence) Squadron. It ceased to function in August 1919 and was returned to farmland - and forgotten about.
