Default More aerial images from RCAHMS

I notice that the RCAHMS have added more images of the North coast and Shetland - there is a Google Earth KML of the new image locations

    New batch of images uploaded

A new batch of over 9,000 historical aerial images of Scotland has been released and is now accessible online. The imagery was copied as part of the NCAP Digitisation programme, which aims to make 150,000 images available online by June 2013.

The imagery adds to our online galleries of Shetland, Caithness and central Scotland taken during Operation REVUE, the RAF post-war National Air Photograph Survey.

And I only checked yesterday! That's my evening sorted then. Now will they answer any more range related questions?

Good that they are announcing new additions in that way.

I had an interesting time looking at wireless intercept and DF sites in Caithness. I have been around the postwar CSO one but I had not realised that they were all WWII sites as Canmore is a bit ambiguous. Could also see Geise well but the big challenge is to find the underground tank around there.

Also the AAOD at Watten shows up well with many more buildings than there now.

The coverage of Shetland tends be up the West side but Saxa Vord shows.

I'm still waiting for Kintyre to get 1946 coverage along with the Tarbat Ness area. Too many range mysteries in those two areas. The latest batch does show Sinclairs Bay direction arrow and target but not the mystery second range further north. Still I suppose if you got them all in one go it wouldn't be as exciting.

Curses. With rare free time yesterday I spent a couple of hours looking at the RAF '40s coverage and added to my Bomb Store records. Having updated lots of Placemarks in GE I made a SAVE at which point Bill Gates told me he would close the non-responsive programme but would see if he could prevent it from happening in future!!! Have to buy a new monitor tomorrow to replace the one I put my fist through! Now CANMORE is trying me again.......

Normally when I load the placemarks for a county, the first thing that I do is cancel all the 1980 images so the majority left are wartime and postwar with just a handful of modern ones. The 1960 USN ones occasionally can have some really good low level views.
