    Default GERMANY - Werneuchen

This was a Luftwaffe airfield. The runway still remains, as do some of the original hangars. Not surprisingly used by the Soviets after the war. A rather nice touch is the Hochbunker - a surface bunker. One of the hangars had been restored by the local community and was being used as a sports centre type thing.

There's too many photos to post, the gallery is here.

    The Hochbunker:

Well it'd be rude not to have a little look inside:

After a couple of minutes the inner blast door opened:

Inside was pitch black, all these photos are lightpainted with 5-30 second exposures.

The canteen, with typical tacky Soviet decoration:

    Stairs to the four floors

    Ceiling art work

There's probably a name for this; but a sand pit used to test fire guns.

Plenty of ammo embedded in the concrete

    Onto the hangars

Control tower, style much like that of Brandis

This lovely piece of soviet art work had been grafittid all over, it seemed to be an introduction to German road signs, markings and layout:

"Rauchen verboten" - smoking forbidden - clearly original German:

More art in the control tower

Some great pics there - and that bunker is brilliant!

I feel a trip to Germany coming on...

Brilliant photos, those old German Control Towers are wonderful - I wonder if any are still in use. And as for the Bunker, well I agree with Al, I feel a trip to Germany coming on....

Thanks for the comments. If you do visit, make sure you have a backup site, it's possible that the Hochbunker has since been sealed up again...

That's great, thank you. Yes, the sign was in one of the rooms or corridors of the Hochbunker, on one of the upper floors.

Yes I think I've seen that before, very interesting. Also picked up a copy of the book "Roter Stern über Deutschland" just need to find some time to read it
