    Default Sandy Bay

    Sandy Bay Flying Boat Station

Here are a few pictures of the Flying Boat Station at Sandy Bay on Lough Neagh.

During WW2 there were 12 Flying Boat Moorings here with rubber buoys and a large Pick-Up Harness.

Flashing gas lit navigation buoys were laid to the north and south of Rams Island (Which also had 4 Flying -Boat moorings on its sheltered east side.

It was from Sandy Bay that the U.S. Flying Boats had a regular service back to the United States. - The Crews stayed at Ben Neagh which is nearby and I have referred to previously.

My photographs show a remaining building as well as an old jetty from both land and lake view.

Thanks; it's good to see there are still some remains.

What did they moor there? The second picture put me in mind of a painting I saw in a book the other day, although of Dundee.
