Default DUNHOLME - RAF Dunholme Lodge Memorial

A lovely memorial in Private Grounds.

It is stressed that this memorial is on very private grounds and I had full permission to photograph it.

We were all jumping for joy when we realised that we'd come across a to-date unknown memorial.

Nice bit of English bond, the dwarf wall looks old, do I assume that this memorial has been around for a long time?

I'm convinced the memorial is housed within the remains of a small existing building, the wall behind seems to me to be a blast wall as there is a gap in the low wall. I'm not sure how long the memorial has been there.

    Default RAF Dunholme Lodge Memorials

LL919 Crew memorial from 619 Squadron

We have been contacted by a member of the public who has discovered a plaque to this crew in a "Scrap Yard"!!
Fortunately this kind spirited person has contacted us to find out where it has come from.
The other good news though is the Scrap Yard has so far refused to release this until we are able to find out anything further. So it will not be simply melted down or resold it would seem.
We have all the crew and loss details but would like to know if anyone knows where it has come from and perhaps who organised it?
Then, with a little luck we will be able to have this returned to its proper place.

LL919, a Lancaster I, went missing on the Schweinfurt op, 27/4/44.

Thanks for that, as I said we have these details but really would like to know who commissioned it and where it should live?

There is (or perhaps was) a plaque to LL919 on the memorial at Dunholme Lodge, I will dig out a photo but it won't be until tomorrow now unles someone else beats me to it!

    Cheers
