Before you ask, the cheveron wall is a blast wall to the Danger Building SAA Store, that is similar to those already discussed on here at Bicester, Exeter and Duxford.

Photos taken 06-06-81. Petertheeater is that a reference to the spelling of chevron as 'cheveron' when in fact both spellings are correct in this context?

Sorry NP; I missed your post so it makes it look as if I ignored it. No so.

Yes, I was referring to the spelling but having read your response I took a look at the OED which shows only the spelling as Chevron. Knowing that you have read many old documents in your research I assume that some specific reference uses the 'cheveron' spelling either because it was a Commercial name or simply misspelled by the author?

I understand that cheveron is the old spelling and chevron is more recent.

The two airfields at Drem was mentioned in another thread I believe but a search seems to have failed me. The plans certainly show two landing areas and two runway sets. However this is the only place I can see them. The wartime photos show three blister hangars in the SW area but no sign of a runway. That is not conclusive in itself as grass has a nasty habit of not showning runway layouts. The books I have only mention the three on the main site (I assume). Is it possible that they were planned, drawn in, but overtaken by events and never laid? Another theory is that maybe it is RN related?
